Get your boards waxed, your costume ready, and your stoke levels high because it's time for our 4th annual Grom Contest with the California Girl Gang!
Dates and Location:
Saturday October 14, 8am until 2pm
Contest- Abalone St beach access, Nags Head
Awards and after party- Outer Surf (2500 South Virginia Dare Trl, Nags Head)
Divisions:
Minnows (push and go. 6-10 )
Girl Groms (Under 13 girls)
Boy Groms (Under 13 boys)
Big Kahuna (Teenage Division. The funkier the board the Better!)
Expression session (All ages, All boards, Bring your creativity!) 1 heat.
Judging based on:
Creativity
Best Costume
Best Maneuver
Most stoke!!!!!!
What to Expect:
This is a FREE surf contest open to our Outer Banks community. There will be 5 divisions including; Minnows (push n go), Girls under 13, Boys under 13, Big Kahuna teenage division, and an all ages expression session.
This is a non conventional surf contest encouraging FUN. Surfers will be judged on creativity, skill, best costume (Halloween is creeping up!) and overall STOKE!

*Online waivers must be completed before the contest starts. Surfers will NOT be able to compete without a waiver.
*We prioritize safety above all else. Lifeguards will be on duty (Roving Patrol), and all participants will receive a safety briefing before hitting the waves.
'For the Groms' Surf Contest" is not just a surf contest; it's a day of sun, sea, and smiles. So, grab your board, bring your family, and join us for a day of unforgettable fun. Whether you're a seasoned grom or just catching your first wave, this event is all about celebrating the stoke of surfing and creating lifelong memories.

What time should I arrive?
Please arrive to the beach at 8am sharp for check-in.
How much does it cost to participate
The Contest is a FREE community event! Our good friends from California are coming back for the fourth time to help us run this contest and give back to our community. We will have a donation jar at the check-in table if you feel like helping the chicas with travel expenses.
Where can I park?
Park at Abalone beach access, Admiral beach access, Outer Surf shop (not in grass) or Foodlion plaza just up the road. Please do not park illegally on the side of the road. We want our neighbors and the town of Nags Head to like us :)
Can adults participate too?
Sure thing! Sign up for our expression session heat.
What Should I bring?
Surfboard, Sunscreen, Beach towel, Water/Water Bottle, Positive vibes, Your Family and Friends
What If I don’t have access to a surfboard?
Let us know beforehand and we will make sure there is one available for you to use.
What happens in the event of storms or hazardous ocean conditions?
We will cancel and there will be NO makeup date. Pray for fun waves and sunshine :)
